If there is one designer who really did know how to work with leather it was Gianni Versace. Whilst best known for his flamboyant designs and Medusa heads, there were more understated and accessible items available to fashionistas from the fashion house, especially under the Versace Jeans Couture banner. Take this little red leather dress for example.

The idea behind the Versace Jeans Couture line was to bring the styling of denim to high end fashion and make it affordable. This vintage red leather dress has the unmistakable quality of Versace leather, but with a more simplified tailoring reminiscent of a shift dress. The integrated belt sits at exactly the right point to cinch in the waist just enough to highlight the feminine shape so loved by many a fashion designer.
When I decided to showcase this lovely dress I knew exactly which pair of gloves I would wear with them. Way back in 2006 I was lucky enough to get hold of two pairs of unlined opera length gloves from Gloves Europe (now Ines Gloves). One pair in black, the other in red. Both pairs were, and remain to this day, about the best fitting pairs of long leather gloves I have in my collection.

Last time I wore this Versace red leather dress, I donned a pair of similarly coloured red leather court shoes. Since then however, I have bagged myself a pair of red leather knee high boots by Mango. Having already featured them here, I wondered how much of a match they would be for this outfit. The answer was perfectly!

For a couple of final flourishes I picked out a subtle red and silver jewellery set and a silver bracelet to wear over the gloves. And of course, it had to be my reddest of red lipsticks. With that, I was ready for my close-up.
